About Institute

The Institute of electrodynamics of the National academy of sciences of Ukraine, established in 1947, is the leading institution of the Department of energy and energy technologies of the NAS of Ukraine.



The Institute’s scientific activities have always been aimed at improving the efficiency of processes related to the generation, transmission, conversion, and utilization of electrical energy.
Throughout the entire period of its activity, the scientific team of the institute was headed by:

  • 1947-1952 аcademician of the Academy of sciences of the Ukrainian SSR S.O. Lebedev;
  • 1952-1959 corresponding member of the Academy of sciences of the Ukrainian SSR A.D. Nesterenko;
  • 1959-1973 corresponding member of the Academy of sciences of the Ukrainian SSR O.M. Milyakh;
  • 1973-2007 academician of the Academy of sciences of Ukraine A.K. Shydlovskyi;
  • 2007-2025 academician of the Academy of sciences of Ukraine O.V. Kyrylenko;
  • and since 2025 the position has been held by academician of the Academy of sciences of Ukraine A.F. Zharkin.
