About Institute

Established in 1947, the Institute of Electrodynamics of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine is a leading institution of the Department of physical and technical problems of power engineering of the NAS of Ukraine.

The 11 scientific departments of the Institute has 44 Doctors of Sciences, including 3 Academicians and 7 Corresponding Members of the NAS of Ukraine, 73 Candidates of Sciences, as well as highly qualified engineering and technical personnel. 58 research staff members of the Institute are laureates of the State Prizes in the field of science and technology, 39 – laureates of the prizes of the NAS of Ukraine named after V.M. Khrushchov, S.O. Lebedev and G.F. Proskura. 15 scientists were awarded the prize of the President of Ukraine, the Verkhovna Rada and the NAS of Ukraine for young scientists. The high level of the Institute’s works is proved by more than 2,600 author’s certificates and patents, including the foreign ones.

The institute has three specialized scientific councils for the defense of doctoral and candidate theses in seven specialties, as well as postgraduate training program, where 12 postgraduate students are currently studying.

Over the years, the Institute publishes the scientific and applied journal “Technical Electrodynamics” (“Tekhnichna Elektrodynamika“) which is indexed in the international scientometric databases SCOPUS, COMPENDEX, INDEX COPERNICUS, ELIBRARY, and the collection “Works of the Institute of Electrodynamics of the NAS of Ukraine”. In cooperation with the leading technical universities of Ukraine, the Institute organizes and conducts the International scientific and technical conferences – “Problems of modern electrical engineering”, and “Power electronics and energy efficiency”. The Institute of Electrodynamics is the base for the Scientific Council of the NAS of Ukraine on the complex problem “Scientific foundations of power engineering”, which coordinates the scientific activities of 23 scientific and educational institutions of the country in this direction.

The scientific departments of the Institute became the basis for new institutions of the NAS of Ukraine, such as the Institute of Cybernetics, the Institute of Radio Engineering Problems, the Institute for Modeling in Energy Engineering, the Institute of General Energy, the Institute of Renewable Energy, and the Institute of Technical Problems of Magnetism (Kharkiv).

Today, the efforts of the research team of the Institute are aimed at further development of the fundamental and applied researches on the physical and technical problems of electric power engineering and electrical engineering, and at solving urgent scientific and technical problems of the fuel and energy complex of Ukraine.
